I love these screws. I haven't made a crazy number of knives with them (4), but I really like them so far. I cheaped out and didn't buy a counterbore, but I just used a combination of a belt grinder, drill, and dremel to make a step drill out of a standard 1/4" bit (Walter Sorrels has a vid on making step drills). Works perfectly. They are super easy to use, and I definitely recommend them over pins and glue. Less mess, no cure time, and being able to take the scales on and off is really handy.
I just wish they were a bit less expensive. But I'd rather pay a few more cents for better screws, than have cheap crappy screws.
Also if you accidentally grind the head of your screw while shaping your scales, you can just stick them in your drill press and polish them up with sand paper. I used 600g, and it gives it a nice even satin finish.
The micarta in the pic is from these guys too. See my review of that as well.
