22 layer Japanese San Mai blade steel
Core layer is Takefu White Steel (Shiro 2) high carbon steel
22 layer suminagashi low carbon steel outer layers.
Size: 13 inches long x 1.3 inches tall x .215 inches thick
Price is for 1 bar of steel.
Working: can be ground as is or forged.
Heat Treat: instructions will be provided with each bar. It is a fairly simple HT process and oil quenched.
This is some of the finest Japanese blade steel similar to sword steel and makes great kitchen knives, hunting knives etc.
Takefu White steel(Shiro 2) is fine grain and takes a razor edge and makes great knives. Takefu adds Cr(.2-.5%) and Ni(.7-1.3%) to this steel which differs from the Hitachi White Paper steel #2.

Forging this material was easy and fun! It revealed a much more chaotic pattern. VERY satisfying!
The image below is the mini edc cleaver made from the 22-layer san mai.
As a novice knifemaker it was a little challenging to get the bevels as symmetrical as possible for cohesive layers but it was worth the time! Truly enjoyed working with it. Will not be my last time ordering the 22 layer san mai!
Side note: the small skinner developed a sort of rusty discoloration post etching. I believe this was purely an error on my part, NOT THE STEEL. the other edc knife didn't develop any discoloration.
